Last night, Iran attacked the U.S. military base in Qatar in retaliation for the strike ordered by Trump on Iran’s nuclear sites, leaving the world stunned, while residents across the Middle East — including in the usually peaceful Qatari capital, Doha — were terrified. In a strategically very interesting move, Iran announced its attacks hours before, and the U.S. took evacuation measures, so there were no human casualties. Immediately afterward, in a completely unexpected gesture, Trump thanked the Iranians for giving him advance notice. Then, exactly as if following a scripted stage play, that same Donald Trump posted on his own platform, Truth Social, the following message:
“God bless Israel! God bless Iran! God bless the Middle East! God bless the United States of America, and God bless the world!”
Had this statement not later been officially confirmed, no one would have believed that the same warmongering Trump could say such things only a day after promising to obliterate Iran. What else did Trump say?
“Officially, Iran will begin the ceasefire, and at 12 o’clock, Israel will begin the ceasefire, and at midnight, the world will celebrate the official end of the 12-day war. During the ceasefire, each side will remain peaceful and respectful. Assuming all works as it should, which it will, I would like to congratulate both countries, Israel and Iran, for having the resilience, courage, and intelligence to end what should be called the 12-day war. This is a war that could have lasted years and destroyed the entire Middle East, but it didn’t, and it never will.”
After these words from Trump, the world went to sleep in peace. But that peace lasted only until this morning, when, surprise!, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi announced that there was no ceasefire, and to back up that statement, Iran attacked Israel again at dawn, with both material and human casualties already confirmed via videos posted on social media. Only after that statement and today’s renewed strike did Iran officially communicate that it had imposed a ceasefire on the US–Israel enemy. A short while ago, a senior Iranian official confirmed to Reuters that Iran agrees to a ceasefire with Israel, one mediated by Qatar and, notably, proposed by the US.
So what does this tell us? That Iran had no intention of letting Trump claim any success in brokering peace. They humiliated him by publicly denying his statement, and now the Iranians want to bring the conflict to a close while taking the credit for it through intimidation of the adversary. Understand this clearly: that wouldn’t have been possible without the unprecedented attack in recent history on a US military base.
Of course, the propaganda machine will still push the idea that the US succeeded in bringing peace. But the truth, and what history will record if peace holds, is that this nightmare duo, Trump and Bibi Netanyahu, inflicted a major symbolic defeat on the US–Israel alliance through their actions over the past 12 days. In contrast, Iran has achieved a true triumph, one carefully and strategically supported by the Russia–China geopolitical clamp, which played the game by the book, following the combined logic of chess and Go, perfectly applied to global strategy.
For the time being, the planet can breathe a sigh of relief. The reckless warmonger duo, Trump and Bibi, has effectively been put in their place, while on the other side, the Putin–Xi tandem can savor a victory of exceptional strategic utility, the full implications of which we’ll see in the coming period.
As for Trump, starting today, he’ll strut around boasting of a non-existent victory, action which will cause him serious problems in international diplomatic circles, who clearly understand what really happened. You’ll see this play out at the NATO summit starting today in The Hague, where Trump will receive fake smiles and light pats on the shoulder — pats on a back bowed under the weight of all the lies he’s told since returning as US president.
One telling detail confirming all this: the leaders of Japan, South Korea, and Australia, traditionally close allies of the United States, have canceled their participation in the NATO summit, precisely because the US attacked Iran. This cancellation is unprecedented in recent history and will be interpreted as a major erosion of the military solidarity that has formed around the US over the past decades.
Trump is now forcing America to pay the price for his string of amateurish decisions, lies, and irresponsible actions in recent weeks.
