A Russian friend teaches a lesson about honour: Sergey Soloveychik, President of the European Judo Union, resigned today.

Sergey was until today, when he resigned, the head of European judo, elected unanimously by the presidents of the national federations. It’s worth mentioning that in the case of his election, Putin didn’t interfere: he was chosen several times in a row, in strength of the efficient management and the moral qualities which he possesses.
None of his colleagues demanded his resignation, but he considered it just to leave the European judo federation, in the context created by the Ukrainian crisis. He did it for judo, as well as for the feeling of solidarity towards Putin, who has been suspended today from the honorary position at the IJF.
A great character, a man of honor, a great friend!
Dear Sergey, we are waiting for you to return after the „guns are silent” and peace would have been installed! Sport, and especially judo, is about honor, friendship, value, and you have fully demonstrated them all!
Friend, tell the other good Russians that the world does not end with this absurd conflict in Ukraine, and that all us Europeans we are waiting for you soon!
